Matt Lea Wins the Mr. Bass of Arkansas Tournament on the Arkansas River!

Matt Lea topped 45 pros’ fishing the final regular season tournament of 2011 by catching 4 bass that weighed 10.49 pounds. To say the least, the bite was brutal tough on the River. With lack of flow, 100 degree air temperatures, and 90 degree water temperatures, the anglers faced very harsh conditions. Here’s how the top 3 pros’ caught their bass:

Pro Matt Lea wins MBOA on the Arkansas River 2011

1st place – Matt Lea – 4 bass – 10.49 pounds – $1,874.00

Matt locked up into Pool 7 first thing in the morning and fished backwaters with Jewel Jigs (Black/Blue). This pattern produced 2 keepers for him, but he was able to add 2 more keepers to his creel (caught on Carolina-rigged Zoom Baby Brush Hogs) after locking back into Pool 6.

Pro Rodney Thomason wins MBOA 2nd place on the Arkansas River 2011

2nd place – Rodney Thomason – 3 bass – 7.51 pounds – $1,226.00

Rodney locked into Pool 5 and fished the Brody Bend Area. His bass were caught on plastic worms flipped around grass and wood.

Pro Duke Gunnell wins MBOA 3rd place on the Arkansas River 2011

3rd place – Duke Gunnell – 2 bass – 5.60 pounds – $900.00

Duke stayed in Pool 6, where he threw jigs and Carolina-rigs to catch his bass. His sack included the day’s big bass, a 3.75 pound “Baby Cub” which earned him an additional $350.00. In addition, Duke will also earn contingency cash from Everette Buick GMC.

Pro Ryan Williams and Am Matt White Win the Angler of the Year Award!

Pro Ryan Williams and Am Matt White win MBOA Angler of the Year Awards 2011

Ryan Williams took home $1,000 for winning the McSwain’s Angler of the Year Award in the Pro Division. This award rewards consistency and the ability to catch bass on every lake and in all conditions.
Matt White took home $500 for winning the McSwain’s AOY Award in the Amateur Division. Way to go guys!!!

Bill Dennis Wins the Amateur Divison on the Arkansas River

Am Bill Dennis wins MBOA on the Arkansas River 2011

Bill Dennis topped 35 amateur anglers by catching 5 bass that weighed 10.38 pounds. Bill, who fished with Zach Bane caught all of his bass in Pool 6 on pinnerbaits and plastic worms. Bill took home $793.00 for his efforts.
