Timmy Poe Wins the Mr. Bass of Arkansas Classic on Greers Ferry Lake

Timmy Poe Wins MBOA 2013 Classic Timmy’s Father, Tim Poe, fished the MR BASS OF ARKANSAS tournament trail 20 + years ago and never got that rare opportunity of everything coming together to win the coveted MBOA Classic but I am certain he was just as happy, standing in beautiful Clinton Arkansas watching as his son Timmy walk off the stage the champion, and the winner of a $43,000.00 Ranger Bass boat powered by a Mercury Outboard!!!

Timmy had a steady consistent pattern that produced a limit each day of the tournament. He commented that having 5 is what “made the difference.” His pattern had him run down the lake throwing a 5/8oz lucky strike football jig in peanut butter and jelly flavor for smallmouth. The smallmouths were positioned around brush piles in 15 – 20 feet of water. When the sun got high and the bite slowed he would switch to a drop shot around schooling fish. He also commented about catching three key fish during the storm on Saturday throwing a spinnerbait. His jig was tied to 17lb viscous fluorocarbon and his drop shot on 10lb Viscous Braid with a 12lb Viscous fluorocarbon leader.

Jason Bunch 2nd Place Pro MBOA 2013 Classic
Second place was Jason Bunch. He was only ounces from winning it all but with a gut wrenching four fish on the final day he fell short. He commented catching his fish schooling in 100+ feet of water 20+ miles from takeoff down near the Dam. His tactic was sitting patiently waiting for one to move and then pouncing on them with an old school “Boy Howdy” before they could dive back down. When the bite got real slow on Saturday he pulled out a Carolina rig to add one more to his limit. His final weapon of choice was a Yumbrella that he out pulled when the wind got up on the final day. Jason earned $3,500.00 for his second place finish.

Duke Gunnell 3rd place Pro MBOA 2013 Classic
Third place was Duke Gunnell who wins the tournament of life, and toughness this week after surviving a heart attack on Sunday, he walked out of the hospital on Monday, started his MBOA classic practice on Tuesday morning and he finished in third place today! Are you kidding me?! WOW is what everyone was saying about Duke’s commitment and toughness this week. Duke commented catching a mixed bag each day of large and smallmouth bass. He was fishing both ends of the lake, throwing a super spook junior when they were on top and a green pumpkin magic or green pumpkin candy zoom finesse worms rigged drop shot style. Duke earned $2,500.00 for his third place finish.

Rest of the money winners:

4th – $2,000.00 Joey Hurley
5th – $1,000.00 Chris Huselton
