Greg Carpenter Wins the Mr. Bass of Arkansas Tournament on Lake Ouachita
The Mr. Bass of Arkansas Tournament Trail kicked off Sunday, with the first tournament of the season being held on beautiful Lake Ouachita at Crystal Springs Marina. It was a strangely tough day out on Lake Ouachita compared to the weekend prior, however here is how the day went for the top three from the Pro and Co-angler side.
First place on the Pro side was Greg Carpenter with 15.00lbs, which is a solid catch on a tough high pressure day. He commented that he caught his fish the same as last weekend (Shallow jigs in the North Fork arm of Lake Ouachita). For his efforts, he earned a nice 1st place check worth $2,400. He is also a Ranger Cup member which gave him an additional $500.
Second Place Pro side was “Q” Quincy Houchin. He had a nice limit weighing 14.32lbs. He commented about not doing so well in practice, but put it all together during the day. His fish were caught on Jewel jigs and J&H Swimming Frenzy umbrella-rigs. He earned $1,250 for his efforts.
Third Place on the Pro side was Jason Lieblong. He had a good Ouachita limit weighing 14.18lbs worth $850. I didn’t get a chance to catch up with Jason to see what was his weapon of choice was.
Pro’s in the money: 1st – Greg Carpenter, 2nd – Quincy Houchin, 3rd – Jason Lieblong, 4th – Robert Louthian, 5th – Spencer Shuffield, 6th – Teddy Bogard, 7th – Jerry Williams (not pictured)
Big Bass on the Pro side was myself Cody Kemp with a 5.29lb “green beaver” earning me $325. I caught the fish on a custom Widow Maker from Black’s Custom Lures.
