2018 Tournament 5

Brent Toon wins the MBOA Tournament 5 on Lake Ouachita!

Brent Toon becomes the Mr. Bass of Lake Ouachita by topping the best anglers in the state Sunday on a stingy, hot lake Ouachita!

53 Boats fished Sunday on Lake Ouachita in our 5th Mr. Bass of Arkansas event of the 2018 season! Anglers were once again blessed with a great message provided by Rusty Hunter before takeoff, where he spoke about making the “next right move” in life and fishing!. With hot, falling water, the winner of this event would certainly have to make the “next right move”! Summertime on Lake Ouachita allows anglers the opportunity to fish their strengths because fish are both shallow and deep even during the hottest part of the day. Mr. Bass anglers are the best in Arkansas and we know someone will figure them out and that was Brent Toon!

Brent had 14.36 lbs, earning him $4,000!!! He was also entered into the C-Map side pot which earned him the Lowrance HDS12 Carbon, valued at over $3000! Not bad at all for a single day Pro-Am event!

Brent commented in practise he stopped trying to catch fish and just went to find them. This allowed him to start seeing a pattern with where the fish were, then he returned to those places during the tournament with likely much higher confidence. He caught the majority of his fish on a Whopper Plopper around timber on the outside of small spawning bays were bluegill were spawning in the back of the bay.

Second place was Bassmaster Classic Champion Mark Davis! He had 11.58 lbs which earned him $1,100 on the day! Mark commented that he sometimes wished he could burn down the bank for some of those big bluegill eaters, but he just couldn’t and didn’t like it. Instead he fished offshore on ledges and brush piles with big worms and top waters.

Third place was local Lake Ouachita hammer Robert Jacuzzi! He had 10.91 lbs of bass which earned him $800! He was able to catch all of this fish on a purple worm fished around brush. A normal summer pattern for Ouachita!

Dusty Rhoads wins the Amateur division on Lake Ouachita!

Dusty Rhoads fished with first time Mr. Bass of Arkansas angler Lukas Murry, who had originally planned to fish the amateur side but changed to pro because we were short one. Lukas will earn a free entry to the next event for Dusty’s win! Dusty won the guaranteed #2,000 by catching a limit weighting 9.42 lbs, on drop shots and big worms. He commented with 5 minutes left, Lukas pulled up to a spot on Crystal Springs and he landed a 5.08lb hammerdonk!
